Driller’s Resources

Over the couple of years, we have seen a significant increase in industry activity across the globe but, unfortunately, we have also seen a dramatic increase in the number of accidents in the industry. A great many of these accidents can be attributed to a lack of knowledge, skills or experience on the part of drill crews and this has reminded us of the critical importance of the DrillSafe initiative.

To help address this problem we have developed a series of training resources specifically aimed at improving the safety performance of drill crews, safety officers, geologists and even engineers - we have called these our “Driller’s Resources”. These training aids are designed to improve knowledge and skills and so improve the ability of drills crews, safety officers and geologists to identify hazards on drill sites.

I had the opportunity recently to present the Driller’s Resources concept to the Group Discovery and Geosciences Division of Anglo American and they could immediately see the enormous benefit that the training materials could provide to the industry. I had a similar response from Major Drilling and both organisations have very generously agreed to become sponsors of the initiative. We are delighted and honoured to have the support of these two industry leaders.

The Driller’s Rresources are in an A3 poster format and can be downloaded from the DrillSafe website and printed or used electronically for tool-box talks, or as training topics. The first two resources now available are focussed on flexible hose safety - we will be releasing further resources steadily in the following months.
